Global Renewable Energy Forum 2022

The 6^th edition of the Global Renewable Energy Forum (GREF) is organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Bonn Office, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and the UN Climate Change secretariat (UNFCCC).

2022 is a pivotal year for keeping the 1.5°C climate target of the Paris Agreement in realistic reach while also emphasizing the high risk of a strong dependency on fossil fuels, not only economically but also geopolitically. Significantly ramping up renewable energy constitutes a key factor for creating a decarbonized, more democratic, and decentralized energy system that ends fossil fuel dependency, creates decent green jobs, and ends energy poverty. It also puts us on a path compatible with the Paris Agreement and moving toward a just, inclusive, and sustainable transition leaving no one behind. Renewable power grids and infrastructure are a key component of the energy transition that often poses serious challenges to achieving renewable energy targets. To complete the energy transition, infrastructure, especially grids, must be improved, yet progress is too slow.

Against this backdrop, GREF 2022 puts a particular focus on how to ramp up renewables and on innovation in renewable power grids. Key challenges, in this respect, will be discussed from various perspectives with the aim to demonstrate how the energy transition can be accelerated by presenting strategies to significantly increase renewable energies and enhance the deployment of renewable infrastructure.

GREF 2022 is supported by the Korean-German Energy Partnership, REN21 – the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century, the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA), ICLEI World Secretariat, NRW.Energy4Climate, UNIDO ITPO Germany, Future Cleantech Architects, Germanwatch, Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform, the International Geothermal Association (IGA), and Eurosolar.

GREF 2022 is an in-person conference and will be convened at Hotel Königshof (Adenauerallee 9, 53111 Bonn) on September 8, 2022, at 13:30-18:30 hrs.

Die 6. Auflage des Global Renewable Energy Forum (GREF) in Bonn wird von der Botschaft der Republik Korea, Außenstelle Bonn, der Internationalen Organisation für Erneuerbare Energien (IRENA) und dem UN-Klimasekretariat (UNFCCC) organisiert.

2022 ist ein entscheidendes Jahr, um die Erreichung des 1.5° Celsius Zieles des Pariser Klimaabkommen in realisierter Reichweite zu halten. Gleichzeitig wird auch das hohe Risiko einer starken Abhängigkeit von fossilen Energieträgern deutlich, nicht nur wirtschaftlich, sondern auf geopolitisch. Die signifikante Beschleunigung des Ausbaus erneuerbarer Energien ist ein wichtiger Faktor für die Schaffung eines dekarbonisierten, demokratischeren und dezentraleren Energiesystems, welches die Abhängigkeit von fossilen Energieträgern beendet, gute, grüne Jobs schafft sowie der Energiearmut ein Ende setzt. Es bringt uns ebenfalls auf den 1,5°C Pfad des Pariser Klimaabkommens und gibt die Richtung vor für eine gerechte, integrative und nachhaltige Transformation, die niemanden zurücklasst. Erneuerbare Stromnetze und Infrastruktur sind ein integraler Bestandteil der Energiewende, die oft große Herausforderungen für die Erreichung der Energieziele darstellen. Um die Energiewende zu vollenden, muss Infrastruktur und besonders der Ausbau der erneuerbaren Stromnetze verbessert werden. Hier bedarf es mehr Beschleunigung.

Vor diesem Hintergrund beschäftigt sich die englischsprachige Konferenz mit der Frage, wie die notwendige Beschleunigung des Ausbaus erneuerbarer Energien gelingen kann sowie mit dem Thema Innovation im erneuerbaren Netzausbau. Hierbei werden zentrale Herausforderungen in diesem Bereich aus verschiedenen Perspektiven diskutiert mit dem Ziel, Strategien aufzuzeigen, um einen signifikanten Ausbau der erneuerbaren Energien und der erneuerbaren Infrastruktur zu erreichen.

Unterstützt wird die Konferenz von der Deutsch-Koreanischen Energiepartnerschaft, dem Netzwerk für erneuerbare Energien des 21. Jahrhunderts (REN21), World Wind Energy Association (WWEA), ICLEI World Secretariat, NRW.Energy4Climate, UNIDO ITPO Germany, Future Cleantech Architects, Germanwatch, Global 100% Renewable Energy Platform, International Geothermal Association (IGA) und Eurosolar.

GREF 2022 findet als Präsenzveranstaltung im Hotel Königshof (Adenauerallee 9, 53111 Bonn) am 8. September 2022 von 13:30-18:30 Uhr statt.
