The 100% Renewable Energy: Cities & Regions Roadmap, which supports cities and regions in the implementation of climate actions, developing a roadmap for 100% renewable energy, selected the city of Avellaneda to be the deep-dive city of activities towards renewable energy supply in Argentina.

The choice was based on the city’s political commitment and it´s ability to plan and manage actions related to renewable energy. In addition, Avellaneda is a small and influential city in the region, it is the head of the Reconquista Region – Avellaneda, which places it as a facilitator in the dissemination of the knowledge to other cities.

Through 100% RE, Avellaneda will receive support from the Fraunhofer Institute in modeling its local energy system.

The other cities in the project – La Plata and Rosario – will constitute a thematic community of good practices from local governments for the exchange of experiences, learning among peers and training.

Kick Off

On May 14, the kick-off meeting took place virtually due to the pandemic context.

The meeting aimed to present the project to the deep-dive city working group, understand the local energy scenario, present the survey of strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities, validate the mapping of stakeholders and engage other cities from the province, as well as others actors and the national government.

In addition to the representatives of the city hall, actors from the private sector were also present in the meeting; so as the National Directorate for Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Productive Development of the Nation; the Secretariat for Ecosystem Development and Climate Change, the Ministry of Environment of the Province of Santa Fé; and the focal points of La Plata and Rosario.
