A quarter of all electricity in Germany is produced by citizen energy, better known as community energy. Energy communities are one of the biggest producers of electric power in this highly industrialized country. How can it be—this phenomenon of citizen energy in the form of energy cooperatives and community energy initiatives is so unknown internationally? Because citizen energy is by and for citizens locally. Myriads of small- to mid-sized photovoltaic and wind energy power plants supply whole regions with renewable energy.
Citizens of other countries would like to follow this example. Therefore, the German Citizen Energy Alliance BBEn founded an online Academy accessible to everybody at any time.
For the first time, this gigantic knowledge base is made available for everyone for free, in the form of a massive open online course (MOOC), with short explanatory videos made by practitioners on the ground not only in Germany, but also Greece and Croatia. By linking to the Academy, you will get access to short explanatory videos made by the practitioners on the ground, and other resources.
